People sometimes ask me why I became a Pilates teacher. (I try to see this as genuine curiosity, rather than baffled disbelief, but I suppose you never know). Tempted as I am to say it was for the glamorous rock 'n' roll lifestyle, it was actually because I wanted to help others in the same way that someone once helped me.
Many years ago, I saw a physiotherapist about a persistent shoulder/neck problem. She taught me some exercises that I only subsequently discovered were Pilates. The more I did, the better I felt until one day I realised that the pain had gone. Determined to keep it away, I continued with Pilates and found it dealt with all the other aches and pains I had (wrongly) assumed were an inevitable consequence of getting older.
Now, as a Pilates teacher, I do what I can to help people overcome their own ailments. I'm not a doctor or a therapist. I don't "do" things to people, but I do feel I am good at selecting and explaining exercises that help people. The more people I can help in this way, the happier I am.
Which is why I am delighted to announce that I have written a book to help people recover quickly and completely from hip replacement surgery. The book features sequences of exercises that, over my many years of teaching, I have found to be highly beneficial in helping people achieve full strength and mobility.
My book is called Pilates for Hip Replacement and is available on Amazon now. It gives complete sequences of simple Pilates exercises specifically chosen to be of benefit to someone having hip replacement surgery. I've used clear, easy-to-understand language and fully illustrated each exercise. No special equipment or prior Pilates experience is required.

If you know someone with hip issues, or who has been told they may need a hip replacement, or perhaps has already had the surgery and hasn't fully recovered yet, I would be very grateful if you would point them in the direction of my book.
(note that this is an Amazon affiliate link. It won't cost you any extra, but I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase).
If you're outside the UK, you should be able to find the book on your local Amazon store (search for "Pilates for Hip Replacement" or see the links on my shop page - scroll down to find links to the book on Amazon US, Australia, Canada and Sweden).
Of course, if you prefer the live version of Charles Abbott to the written one, I'm always happy to see you at my online classes but please note that there will be no live classes on Thursday 17 July. Both classes that day will be recording only. If you book for a class that day, I will send you a specially pre-recorded version before the usual start time of the class. Or, if you get a move on, Amazon say they can deliver my book in two days...
